What's my problem? Good question. I've been doing this FAWM thing for over a decade without bothering to learn anything. I will lay down one lousy track--and instead of fixing it, I will lay down another, and then another, until there is a stew of lousiness that sometimes sounds really cool. And if it doesn't sound cool, I will keep adding stuff to the pot until I can't hear anything in particular. Maybe I should try to do something right instead of seeing how many wrongs might possibly make a right. We'll see.

I will collaborate with anyone who can tolerate my louche approach to music making.

@jeff9

Thank you for the kind words, Ray.

Oh, hooray. Look forward to doing something in February together. One pf the things I love about coming to music as a beginner is that I don’t feel a lot of pressure to be accomplished. Feels like it’s enough to enjoy the doing.

[avatar]

Thank you for listening to Map of Tennessee. I think I could spend the rest of my life only writing songs that have Tennessee and Texas in them. And yeah, I love maps too. Let's do something together in February.

Thanks for your comment! Haha well @davidtaro is such a better pianist than I am - You didn't want hear my initial draft. I may stick to songwriting and production, that's my forte. @davidtaro and @katestantonsings just rocked it.

Couldn't agree more w your Conor Oberst comment regarding piano skill--creativity, imagination, and music from the heart w/ a good work ethic mean more than skill or talent. @davidtaro @nadine Thanks for listening to our collab!

love your bio :)

[avatar]

Thank you so much! Means a lot!

The cat took a while, but finally got me over the threshold! Thank you for the comment!

[avatar]

thank you foir all your listening and thoughtful comments. i hope you are having a good time in new mexico. i have spent far too little time in the southwest that lies east of indio. i have really enjoyed all your variations on the natalie portman song,

[avatar]

I've recorded some drums but I'm short on time this weekend because there's a film festival in town. I'll see if I can record some other stuff in the week!

Thanks for your kind feedback on my track about my spaceship. She is still out there taking her time … 😊

[avatar]

Hell yeah I do! I've been waiting all summer for somebody to ask. I think I'm reasonably competent at this point!!!

We each sit in our houses and play hurdy gurdy at the link below. That's what I use! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPOs1FRbNNY

Hey, I really feel glad about your comment on Femme Libre! Cause I am a bit unsure about it … especialy my vocals … I am not much of a singer, but this was in me yesterday and I had to do this.
I can relate about what you said about the special groove of this track. It hit me when I found the loops and put them into 40 bpm. This happens sometimes when I put the beats so slow … something happens with the sound - it is magical …

@ttg105

Thanks for the nice comment! I don't hold on to the stems, just the finished file, but feel free to download it (put "0" in the cost box) and do whatever you'd like. There's no guitar on it, so go crazy!

[avatar]

thanks for your comments on mosaic. no cello or violin. those are the overtones from the guitar tuning

Thanks a bunch for listening to my album preview! Now it's time for me to get started on the next project

Thank you for the Laurie Anderson-style appreciation. Had so much fun! Tempted to do a concept album in that style for FAWM. Would that be too much? Lol!

@wolfkier

oh it's still a long way to the top, my friend. But thank you for the kind and encouraging words! :)

Hey, thanks for the comment on How To Write Songs On Guitar In Altered Tunings. Yes to just moving fingers around in standard tuning. That gets similar results and saves wear and tear on the tuning pegs, strings, and guitar neck. I can stumble onto different sounds and weird chords by simply moving the dozen or so chord shapes I know up the neck, and/or just shifting the shape I know to other strings. True confession, while I write a fair number of songs in other tunings, if I want to play them out I usually figure out how to play them in standard tuning anyway.

[avatar]

Working on it, sort of. This 50/90 has been a string of misadventures, finding it hard to get into any kind of rhythm. Which is ironic now that I'm learning the drums.

chuck was tom waits' best friend. lived in a broom closet right below toms window. he has a few tunes on youtube . when tom got married, hs wife made him sever ties with all his friends, but about 20 years later tom cut the apron strings and produced chucks first album, he also had a small part in johnny depps movie, the brave. i think depp gave him the role to make up for firing him from his weekly gig at the viper room.

[avatar]

the reason i wrote that rooster song is because nobody ha been commenting on my songs for a few days because my sount had exceeded 50 and they received a bad gateway warning and could not access the songs. so i didnt want to waste a good song by podting it if nobody could lidten to it. dso i posted this joke song with a trick tp how one might gain access to my profile under these circunstances. i figured if no one responed, i would wait until the bug in the machine was flushed out before i would post any more songs. but i did receive a few responses so ill try posting a real song tomorrow.

[avatar]

someone in the house here killed their rooster and tried to make us eat it. i couldnt believe it was a rooster because it looked like a really bad cut of beef, and it tasted terrible, none of us would eat it. i threw in the penis line as a joke. made up the whole song in the bathrom after lunch.

Hey, thanks for listening to "Japan" and just wanted to say that getting outside of Tokyo can be nice, especially if you like the countryside. From Tokyo, you can do a day trip to Nikko (highly recommended) and if you go to Kyoto, you can do a day trip to Nara. They have a deer park that's really cool (wild deer that are used to getting treats from people so they hang out and let visitors pet them).

[avatar]

The thing my brother in law and husband most talked about was how small a seat their father had, and that he had to fold it up so the bomb aimer could get into his position right below his father. And when they were shot down, the pilot (to his near left), the bomb aimer(who was below him) and the wireless operator (who was beside him) all died. And their father exited the burning plane into the dark skies .

[avatar]

Hey Ray, I'm actually over in Bend. Lemme have a think on if I know any musicians in PDX.

[avatar]

I haven't had any multi-song story arcs this year (yet--I have a staycation coming up and that's the aspiration), so nothing to point you to there. But as flattered as I always am to have you listen to my music, I'd rather you spend that time working on (and posting) your own!

[avatar]

Whhyyyyyy have you only done two songs?!? I mean, I understand you can only do what your muse allows, and if you're not feeling it (or are otherwise busy / occupied / whatever), then that's that, but still, I miss your music!

[avatar]
@ttg105

:)

[avatar]

Haha brilliant! That does feel like a win, thanks for letting me know 😀

[avatar]

The muse will return when it feels like it! The autotune and snare are just elements all the boring chart songs seem to add!

[avatar]
@ttg105

:)

[avatar]

Thanks for the article link - I could definitely see a song there, though it would have to be less glib than my usual style, and I'm not sure if I could pull it off. It would certainly be a challenge (which is not a bad thing!).

[avatar]

Thank you so much for your kind comments on my collab with @Billwhite51!

@jeustan

Happy 10 years or so. I really look forward to hearing you again. Happy 50/90.

@sbs2018

There you are! Thanks for stopping by. I’ve got a whole bunch of sounds you probably haven’t been expecting from me - lol!

[avatar]

I find 'The new decay' a very good name for a band. Doesn't sound dated at all :)

Thanks for commenting on the song I called 'Hidden comfort'!

[avatar]

Cheers! "Operating and Becoming Nutritious" is definitely one of my favourite FAWM songs ever, really proud of "The Strangest Dream" from that album too. The voice on Operating... is completely synthetic, I think the only guest on that album is @nuerdetjuligen on "Heartline". Expendable Friend is on "Dennis" and a b-side I think we did during 50/90 maybe? https://vomvorton.bandcamp.com/album/dennis

[avatar]

Thank you Ray for your comment on my song "Climbing Prospect Hill". I don't think I've heard your music, but you see to have some old times fans here.

[avatar]

I understand both busyness and lack of motivation, and you have every right to pace yourself as is best for you, but I genuinely, truly, 100% hope you to post some music this summer. Know that at least one person (me) will definitely be eagerly awaiting and listening to anything you do post!

[avatar]
@wolfkier

Thanks, my friend. I was wondering when you'd surface. I'm hoping you'll be involved in some way with one of the future GIMME15s. I'm posting the invitation to play for the next one on the forum tomorrow some time (Friday 7/8/22). Watch out for that and join in there or contact me directly if you're interested.
I hope you're doing well! Hugs to you!

lima is not as bad as seattle, but its just another lemming drop.

[avatar]

Hi! Are you here this summer! I very much hope so - I am such a huge fan of all your music every year!
