July 3, 2022 - I'm so excited to be here. I'm hoping to do lots of collaborating and skirmishing. I'd love to do some corpses and morphs and whatever other wild, wonderful writables pop up.

If you ever want a set of lyrics to write to feel free to hit me up. I can start from a phrase (words or music) or from a block of text or can just surprise you with a few options. And of course feel free to put music to anything I post. Generally the more the merrier.

I did my first FAWM in February 2022 and was blown away by how great it was.

My influences lately include Guy Clark, the Turnpike Troubadors, Hayes Carll, Becky Warren, Lori McKenna, Miranda Lambert, and from longer ago Lyle Lovett, John Prine, Billy Bragg, the Cowboy Junkies, Pete Seeger, Peter, Paul, and Mary, Simon and Garfunkel, John Denver, U2, Billy Joel.

I love story-based songs. #americana #country_folk #country

Thanks! It was nice to get a comment and hear from you on this cold October morning.

[avatar]

I forgot to say: Yes, I'd love to do something with you in February. You should know, though, that I'm at the low-skill end of the spectrum when it comes to playing and recording :)

[avatar]

Thanks for the kind words. I did not know that Steinbeck had written a book based on the Arthurian legends (The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights). It would be great to write a song about spilling your Cover Girl foundation in your purse, thus perfuming the book.

[avatar]

Just a note to say I have put up a demo for my song "Racing Against Time" that you kindly commented on when it was just lyrics only.

https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/11326

[avatar]

Oh my gosh! I screwed up! The morph you just commented on was my morph of your lyric/song Bumper to Bumper! Morph 4! So sorry!

[avatar]

Hi Nancy. I'm trying to at least say "thank you" for past comments as I scramble with my chaotic current existence...thank you for the sweet asides on One for Bedtime. When your grandkids are hitting 18, it's a long way back to singing one's little ones to sleep "Sing all day, all I do/Hushabye, I'll sing to you"

[avatar]

Just in case you're still hanging around - to answer your question, yes, I would love to write with you again in February!

[avatar]

Hi Nancy, I'm terribly sorry for replying this late :S
I did not expect someone to still react.. If you want we can still work on it. You, me, Wolf.... would be strange if we couldn't get a thing going...

Re: https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/forums/280

My idea to still post a song is to replace this one (which has two versions anyway): https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/1570 with a new collab.

If you want and/or have time on your hands, that is.

Greetings,
Ferry

[avatar]

Empathy is key! Thank you for all your kind words, Nancy! Congrats on such an awesome 50/90!

[avatar]

Hey Nancy, thanks for you awesome feedback on my song ‘all the time’. I’ve fallen in love with this song and have already reworked some of the lyrics ever so slightly to intertwine the guardian Angel with my own self. Two are really one in this case. It’s possibly my fav written for my album and will deffo be finding a home there. Thanks again!

[avatar]
@tjeff

I would love to collaborate, let's try it!

[avatar]

How old is your daughter, Nancy? If you don't mind me asking. Mine is 14. Thankfully she is only on Snapchat and group texts with her girlfriends right now. I don't like the culture of "Snap Streaks" and she isn't allowed to have location on except for a family app called Life 360. I'm doing the best I can, but it's this strange balance in letting her have freedom but also keeping her off the screens so she can experience REAL life and find REAL worth...

[avatar]

congrats on the win and thanks for the kind words!!! i'll say a prayer that you arrive safely to your destination.

[avatar]

thanks so much for dropping by. I really did intend to upload as I went along.. but its great to ensure that at least I've made an offering.

[avatar]

Hi Nancy. I would like to tweak Butter, Bourbon and Bacon a bit after 50/90 and put it on Banndcamp. All my pages are free download. Are you OK with that?

[avatar]
@aneil

thx for the comment on personal dj wow those neon lights giving us blue teeth didn't think about that!

[avatar]

Glad you liked my Atlantic Convoy song. My Dad did a great job of making his experiences vivid for me, so it made it easier for me to pass that on.

[avatar]

Thanks Nancy, Butter,Bourbon, and Bacon is posted.That was fun.

[avatar]

Nancy, Thanks for commenting on Not Your Kind of Guy and the comparison to Hayes Carll's Another lIke You. I was not familiar with that artist or song, so I just had to listen! What a fun duet, and a flattering comparison. I thought Gwyn and Georgie did a great job on the song, and I'm glad you liked it. Thanks!

[avatar]
@andrea

Thank you so much for your very thoughtful and positive comments on Quarterlife Blues and When I Had it All. It is a joy collaborating with such talent. Makes 50/90 so much fun!

[avatar]

Thanks Nancy! Yes, let's see if we can do something together at FAWM!

[avatar]

Your comments on The Halifax made me think about that day, after the tour, when my husband and brother in law, just sat and talked about the seat their dad sat in. I guess it was a good point of view to start my song lyric. I also wrote one more The Caterpillar CLub, about my father inlaws last flight. It is very dramatic song, and based on my father in laws flight log.

[avatar]

Thank you for your note. I, too, love what you did with both of those lyrics. And I'd be up for further collaboration as well. Thank you for all you did.

[avatar]
@nadine

Wow Nancy, thanks for all your comments! I'm so happy you enjoyed the songs and drafts. Yes it should be fun smashing hotel rooms cause you got the blues!

[avatar]
@aneil

Thx so much for your comment on my song. I really appreciate your input

[avatar]

it has been fun collaborating with you..and very rewarding as well. i hope to see you here in february when we can collaborate further.

[avatar]

Thank you. ❤️

[avatar]
@nadine

Interesting, so you meant the psychologist!

[avatar]

Hey, thanks so much for continuing to listen to my songs, I'm really pleased you're enjoying them. And thanks for recommending me in the forums too, that's very kind of you. Congrats on hitting 50 songs! And hope you enjoy the rest of 50/90 :)

[avatar]

Howdy, Nancy! James Joyce..? Wow! How much money do you want to borrow? Thanks for your Ghost Town comment! I will send the money ASAP. 😄

[avatar]

Thank you, Nancy. 🙏
You are very kind. 😊

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you! The change of perspective increased the readability. You get rid of passives and you less think about who said what.
I'm always a bit worried of sharing criticism and ideas on this platform. People are easily hurt, me too. But sometimes tiny things are a quick fix that do a lot...

[avatar]

I 100% agree that it is so hard to write a good love song without it seeming either codependent or bitter. @coolparadiso nailed these lyrics. I was so pleased with our collab! I’m glad you enjoyed it too:) also, thanks for the comments on the collabs with @mctown! We hit the lyrics and music gig off well this season. Very proud of our work! He’s got his own writer’s voice. It was a pleasure🎶🎶. Thank you Nancy!

[avatar]

"That felt like a duet between the heart and the head". Loved this!! Thank you, Nancy! I also love the voices of Enya, Tori, and Dolores!

[avatar]

Hi Nancy, thanks for the comment. As I’m sure you are aware, DT did all the work. That said, I had fun as a bit player. Your lyrics are fantastic and so on point in today’s world. Kind of scary but I like how your lyrics made light of it.

[avatar]

Thank you so much Nancy! I appreciate your message on my profile. I'd love to collab with you. If we run out of time this month, maybe we can during FAWM or even off season? I'm connected to you on SoundCloud :)

[avatar]

Likewise, Nancy! Good to have you along on that Lyric Morph 3 challenge. It was interesting to see how you morphed my lyric "I'm through with You" into your "Go Away" one.

[avatar]
@jeff9

Hi, Nancy, and thank you sincerely for the kind comments about What Happens Leaves a Mark. And for your contribution to the morph chain that helped inspire it.

[avatar]
@jamkar

Thank you for the nice comments on “Hotta Have Oomph.”.

[avatar]

Hi Nancy, for Music Morph 4 I have offered the following skirmish written earlier today as a seed song https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/8740 so, since you are second in the chain, you are up. Let me know if you have any questions and happy morphing!

[avatar]

Hi Nancy! Just repeating my previous comment but yes a collab would be cool. I was wondering if anyone had picked up Feed The Algorithm? Saw Tuneslayer had done an awesome interpretation of them, but perhaps I could use the original lyrics? If not, no worries, as you say… there’s always February 😀

[avatar]

Thank you Nancy for your kind comment on River Ramblings.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you Nancy! I didn't know picks could break... I use pretty heavy ones and smash real hard, so kudos for this! Yes, feel free to compose if my lyrics inspire you. You're definitely right about the P.S. I won't write new songs until my pile decreased. The next weeks and months will be loaded once I get the stems. Now I'm relaxing. No DAW!

[avatar]

on hope the high road..i interpreted that song as being about a recovered alcoholic telling his ex that he wasnt going to go back to the drunken past they shared, that he was straight now and hoped she would get off the booze and find a life she found worth living rather than wallow in her misery. and he didnt seem all that self righteous about it, as he admits to still having demons of his own to face. they remind me of the couple in the movie days of wine and roses, who break up after he quits drinking because she loves the bottle more than she loves him. at least thats what the song seems to be about to me in light of his own history as a recovered alcoholic. but i could be wrong.

[avatar]

Nancy, Im glad you decided to write the verses for the end of everything. I dont have any music for it, so you can write the verses in any form you wish. One thing Id like to mention. I dont want this to come off like a whiney break up song. It is not about a desire to renew a broken relationship. It is about the end of the woirld these two people created, and the realization that the decisions they make now will begin the buillding of a new reality. how you decide to explore this theme is entirely up to you

[avatar]
@mahtowin

Sexy! Really? 😊 Thanks a lot for your words to my song!

[avatar]

Hi, Nancy, Thanks for picking up on the positive spin on I Call Myself a Gardener…you got exactly what I was trying to say and I’m glad it worked for you. Whoopie! :)

[avatar]

hi nancy. i have a chorus that i think i pretty good, but when i go to write the verses all i come up wuth is a laundry list of trite examples...what i want are some unique. true to life episodes. perhaps you wouod be interested and willimg to write a few such verses. and if possible permit me to make adjustments when deemed neccessary. here is the chorus/ the title of the song is The End of Everything. and it could ve considered Guy Clark, John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, Paul Simon territory

This is the end of everything
This is the end of who I was
This is the end of who we were
It's not about how you feel about him
It's not about how I feel about her
To hell with what tomorrow may bring
This is the end of everything

[avatar]

Hey, Nancy! You're up next on the Lyric Morph 3 train! Here's my lyric with which to work: https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/7972

[avatar]

Thanks so much for your note on my soundboard! I just sent you and @jeff9 an email, which may have ended up in the spam folder. 😒

[avatar]
@jeff9

Thank you, Nancy--I'm so glad you were pleased with my rendition of Workaholic Country Blues. Your lyrics, like they usually do, just pulled me right into that one. I had a blast composing some music and singing it.

[avatar]

Thanks so much for your comments on ‘Hurricane’ I love the idea of trying out some different adjectives For the last line of the chorus. Thanks for the idea

[avatar]

Thank you so much Nancy for such a beautiful comment on "The notebook". The movie is amazing and they have brilliant music there. It was just my imaginary music :)

[avatar]

Thanks for posting on my songs "Before the Rain" and "Find Your Light", I appreciate your comments!

[avatar]

I love what you did with Night Sky. You made it into something I didn't expect and couldn't have accomplished. Thank you.

[avatar]

Thank you, Nancy! For giving me good work to morph and for your kind comments! Much appreciated!

[avatar]

Hi Nancy! Posted my morph of yours!

[avatar]

Hi Nancy! Thanks a lot for your input on the English version of Schlaflied für kleine Häschen. 😊 Agree, "hit the hay" is more something that buddies would say to each other - just couldn't think of anything to fit the ryhmes... 😅 I do like your free approach to the lyrics. I always find it much more important to capture the big whole, not the details. Many details don't translate well between languages and cultures anyway.

[avatar]

Hi Nancy, thanks for passing on some great lyrics to morph! I posted the morph of them and added you as a collaborator! I hope you like them okay! And I see I follow you in the music morph to!

[avatar]
@tjeff

Nancy, thanks so, so much for the supportive comments! Wow, I really appreciate it!

[avatar]

Hi Nancy here is the song I posted for Music Morph 2 https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/98. Last night I mistakenly posted the same seed song as for morph 1, and just realized and switched it. If you did not see it yet then nevermind 😂. In case you already saw the post and started writing then no worries, please drastically change it as the same person follows you that went second in morph 1. Sorry for the confusion on my part!

[avatar]

Fab that you think my "Would It Kill Ya" lyric has a cool hook, Nancy, and that you can see those in the attic! Thx for stopping by my page, reading my words, and letting me know what you thought.

[avatar]

Hi, Nancy! Here is the seed song for Lyric Morph 2: https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/6264.

I hope you have fun with it!

[avatar]

Hi, Nancy, Thanks for your comments on Come Back. I like your description of the two voices, starting near the Beatles and ending up closer to The Rolling Stones and Leon Russell. Pretty cool! It is always a treat to work with David.

[avatar]
@chldomn5

Hiya, you can tag me as collab on the song we discussed :) let me know when you’ve done it. I’ll make sure I listen to it again too for the extra effect hehe

[avatar]
@nadine

Good morning, I've added my comment to our song. Will you give it away for collab? If yes, please add the tags.

[avatar]
@jeff9

Thanks, Nancy, on Hot Chocolate. Not my piano playing I have to confess.

[avatar]
@andrea

Thanks for your very kind comments on Wake Up Charlie😀

[avatar]

I love your idea that my brother behind the bed is the ghost of my younger self. Indeed, I used to exclusively play 12 string in the early days. Rob will love that comment too, because he's actually only three years younger than me.

However, in fact, the twelve string was so loud when we sat side by side that it drowned out the classical guitar so the positioning was merely practical 😉

[avatar]
@candle

Thank you so much for your great comment on Bread Tag Mafia Pt 1. I have a whole collection of bread tags that I use as guitar picks. They're lots of fun & have some interesting & unique tones to them.

See You In The Shadows…

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you, Nancy. I feel better now. Guess it's what I needed yesterday... I put that one on the list for maybe someday, because shredding the guitar at 160 BPM hurt too much. I was done after 2 takes and I still feel my muscles.

[avatar]

a song cycle about blues clubs is a cool idea. one of my weirdest experiences was in charlotte north carolina when i was manahinh james blood ulmer. we walked into the double door, the main blues room in town , to book a gig...and the manager wouldnt even talk to us. said we could leave a demo and he would get bak to him. they didnt have any idea whio he was, and i think he scared the crap out of them. the 1369 was actually a jazz club, but they had the all day blues jams every sunday. then there are all the clubs on halsted street in chicago. i remember one in particular that had two rooms seperated by the bar, and there would be no break in the music, as two bands one be playing, one on each stage, so the minute one band stopped, the other would start.

[avatar]

Thanks for your comments on "Disrupted". I made a mistake leaving Horror Box on the liner notes. It wasn't used on that one. It was, however, used on this one: "Terminal".
https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/4270

Lol, YES!! I definitely need to write one about the dumpster parade. There is construction everywhere right now. 🤦‍♀️

Thanks for the comment on 'Bang or a Whimper'!

[avatar]
@beacon

Can't hear the music for I Wrestled with the Beast. Might want to check that link.

[avatar]

What a great surprise. Thank you so much!

[avatar]

Re: night sky - that would be wonderful

[avatar]

Fab seeing you stop by my page and comment on "The Words Not Said," Nancy! Good lyrical eye and ability you have to interpret them, re: the song's character.

[avatar]
@mahtowin

[avatar]
@miga

thanks for the comment on "under our wheels"! So, you know the Susquehanna too? (That was a witty wordplay between the bridge and the musical bridge!) I love those native names, so sweet off the tongue, and so musical. I'm kinda new to the whole FAWM scene, but also benefitting greatly from it! So glad you're having a good time at 5090!

I sent my 10 sec. of Kaiju to you Nancy, at the above email.

[avatar]
@chldomn5

hi! ive seen your song that youve shared with me on my profile. ill need a bit of time to process whats been happening - im surprised such a kind gesture has been made ! while also feeling confused in a weird sorta happy/who me?? sorta way lol some conflicting emotions and thoughts have come up.. ill get back to you on this, while im currently having abreak from music. allthabest xx

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you! This song is far from finished. I hope we can open it up for collaborating with better singers. It was very hard for me and I don't have the gear and wont be able to buy in the next 1-2 years. At least I was feeling very down when I recorded it, so it helped.

[avatar]
@nadine

Hey Nancy! I just want to say that taking a break for some days or weeks. I have been in a lousy mood the last week. I don't feel like writing songs. Maybe it's better to work off my pile and find co musicians, before I start more stuff...

[avatar]

Hey, no problem.
Thanks for the great lyric.

[avatar]

@nancycunning, can I take a stab at: Not at Etta's Anymore.
I really like your Lyric and I have some Music that I think will fit.
Is it OK if I Nix a couple verses? I will keep the Flow of it.
It's a little lengthy otherwise.

[avatar]

Hey, thanks so much for listening to my songs. Really glad you enjoyed them. Looks like you're making amazing progress with your 50/90! Hope you have a great one :)

[avatar]
@jlampson

Thank you so much for your comments on "The One-Upper". You actually gave ME some things to think about with your analysis of the behavior and of my song, so thank you for that. We all have a wanting for validation and belonging, of course, and some (including me) have likely developed various coping mechanisms or methods of getting desired attention. Looking at the song from your perspective as a listener actually makes me think that's the way it should be: that the singer went from critic to empathetic observer to accountable to themself through the reflection of this song. Admittedly, I did not have that in my head when I wrote or sang it, but I think I will from now on. Thank you again!

[avatar]
@jeff9

Thanks much, Nancy, for the kind words about "Cranky Old Men"!

[avatar]
@wolfkier

:)

[avatar]

Nancy, I liked your comment on But I Did about the contrast between the "head-first verses and the heart-broke choruses." That's exactly what I had in mind in the lyrics and Kate delivered in spades! Thanks for listening.
Thanks, too, for your great comments on Cranky Old Men. Glad you thought it was fun.

[avatar]

Hi Nancy, Regarding your chorus: Works! 👍

Here is some grammatical nitpicking, in case you want it super smooth.

Without the context, I am not 100% sure of course. To me it sounds like it's about people fleeing and letting them into the country? If that's right then I would suggest the following small changes:

"Alle akzeptieren / Ohne Vorbehalt / Ohne Grenzen / Ohne Grenzschutz / Alle akzeptieren / Ohne Vorbehalt / Alle akzeptieren - und zwar jetzt".

- Use "alle" if it means mostly persons. "Alles" means mostly things and would sound impolite when addressing people.

- "Reservierung" means reserving something for later use, like a restaurant table. But I guess you rather mean "Vorbehalt" which means "prejudice" or "concern"? Or do you really mean "also accept them if they come unannounced"? Then I would choose something like "Voranmeldung" or "Anmeldung".

- "Grenzschutz" is the commonly used term for persons and organizations protecting borders. "Grenzenschutz" is grammatically correct, but not used and sounds unusual.

(If you'd like to discuss more, we can also e-mail. Or use the private messaging on FAWM's Slack if you'd like to.)

Would love to collab. But seems like you need to be quick with NC lyrics 😂 ! I'll keep a beady eye out and hopefully put my hat in the ring for some... thanks!

Hi Nancy, thank you so much for that feedback! Not sure i have it in me to re-record the vocals at this stage (there's like 5 layers, so it's quite involved 😂 ). But I LOVE your idea, and am definitely going to try messing about with progressing a line(s) in a chorus through a song. That's so cool. Cheers!

Hi Nancy, thank you very much for your kind comment and offer on Depression. I'm not sure you saw my piano track as I've composed music and I'm going to have a demo with the vocals on this lyric so I'm not looking for the music. Maybe we collaborate on something else. Thank you again.
Have a wonderful Summer.

Thank you so much, Nancy!! @mctown and I are working on another song together soon. We'd appreciate you checking that one out as well. I am now going to catch up on your music :) Have a great day!

The previous Ikea conversions? No. 1 was speccy, as the old kitchen sink tried to amputate my ring finger and I spent an evening in pain walking up and down Pt Augusta hospital emergency with a dripping artery while an Aboriginal woman brough in with injuries was screaming without pause at the medicos, ambulance people and police "now ya going to rape me" which says a lot about the social situation. But I don't think I can build that in.

[avatar]

Thought you might like #ikeabondage but didn't like to push! I was in the throes of the lyrics when you sent that message. Everything is taking longer for me this 5090, now the cascade of other issues held in abeyance by #ikeabondage... Thank you for the comment too!

@miga

@mahtowin

Danke fürs zuhören und kommentieren! Es war mein Ziel, es unheimlich und düster zu machen und es scheint mir gelungen zu sein 😊

@jorh

Thanks for your lovely comments on ‘better start believing’ I’m- it’s made my day to know it inspired you :)

@nadine

You're welcome! And thanks for your offer! Right now I have too much on my plate (started too many challenges at once), but I come back to you when my muse is running low on lyrics 😊 It's written down. You got talent!

[avatar]

Actually I think that coda would make a good bridge.

[avatar]

Hey Nancy, Glad you liked my take on "No, Not Today." Yes, please send me the coda for "Picking Poison Ivy." I'd love to see it.

@chldomn5

Hiya I actually haven’t made music for the lyrics I’ve posted, I don’t know if I will turn them into music. I tend to make the Improvs separate to my writing listings. The long video of what’s on my profile is all the recordings I’ve done over three or more days. Because I do them fast I figured I’ll get to 50ish and call it done if I don’t get round to doing my 10 song quality album idea. Hoping to take my time over 5090 for that one. Thanks for stopping by. The time stamps is taking a while but I’ll get round to it ! Thanks for stopping by

Hi Nancy, thanks so much for your extended feedback to my skirmish piece “Unprepared”. You sum it up so well. It took me like half the time of the skirmish to work up the nerve to write about this at all. Makes me glad to hear that the lyrics succeed in conveying some of the confusion and hurt.

[avatar]

Hi Nancy. Thanks you so much listening and commenting on my little burrito song. That was very nice of you.

@cts

Just a few words, eh? A bar 8 of music and you can make it work, you say? Come on over to the Jelly Factory.

[avatar]

That's interresting about the sonnets, I'll have to try that! 😊

[avatar]

Hi Nancy, thank you for the v kind comment on Little Bird! I agree, there’s been some wonderful parenting songs so far this 50/90 - definitely an album in the making ❤️

[avatar]

Thank you Nancy for your lovely comment on Jack-in-the-box, I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

@atam94

Thank you for listening to "The Best Man" and sharing your thoughts. I appreciate the feedback a lot.

It's true, even bad movies with Nicolas Cage are still good because he's in it. Now I want to see Wings Of Desire. There should be a movie where Nicolas Cage plays Nick Cave and Nick Cave plays Nicolas Cage. They could cage fight, in a cage in a cave.

@crisp1

Great comment on No Stone Above My Grave -- "Like Lou Reed wandering the streets of Laredo." I love what Justin did with the music.

[avatar]

i did have a person in mind who has shown interest in it, but nothing confirmed as yet. so send me what you have and i will give it a listen. BWhi51@yahoo.com

@nadine

Thanks a lot, I'm glad you enjoyed! I can take a song pretty far when some talented people to join 😉 But I'll never upload a draft like this into the public. Let's see what happens. Are you enjoing 50/90?
