This is my 2nd 5090.
Over the past few years I have had some wonderful collabs...just another way to expand your musical horizons and meet some super great artists.

Mainly a guitar player BUT during Covid19 shut downs etc. I have been learning/practicing the piano and bass. The plan is to incorporate these instruments into my music production, especially the piano. I usually write/start songs on a guitar but this year i am going to use the piano as the main "starting" point for a song creation...we will see!

I record at my small home studio 14'x14' using Studio One Pro 5.5 with a Steinberg UR 4i6 audio interface and do my own mixing and mastering.
I made the commitment to write more lyrics in the past few years and it's a slow learning process but fun.

Main guitars are:
Fender 1997 stock tele
Epiphone Mark II
Red Squire Strat
First Act electric modified (painted matt black, a new Seymore Duncan humbucker and pots)
Fender Jag bass(a gift from my daughter )
D16 Martin Acoustic
114ce Taylor Acoustic
ES335 Epiphone
An old teardrop Mandolin (circa 1910).

Amps:
1998 Fender Ultra 112Plus amp
2012 Fender Acoustasonic amp
2009 Washburn bass amp

Big Influence these days:
I have been listening to Cory Wong over the last few years and maybe I will do a funky song...my fav type of music to get you on your feet and dancing.

Personal pronouns he/ him  Gm7 or Garry are Ok too

[avatar]

No worries -- Robyn is on top of editing the calendar!

[avatar]

Thanks so much for your comments on You're Alive. The 3 of us had a blast with that collab, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. What a fun song!

[avatar]

Thank you so much for buying my album! Hope you enjoy it. Means so much to me when people welcome my songs into their personal libraries 😄 💚

[avatar]
@andrea

You are so nice. Thanks on the congrats. If I take away the doubles on lyrics/collabs I think I am closer to 29. I'll take it anyway! I am dying to listen to I did F it up, but I know I can't comment well on anything technical. Going in anyway, but I may leave sucky comments (or if I feel completely inadequate, I may say nothing 🙃).

[avatar]

The noiseboxes have a pico pickup and 1/4” jack output. So a fuzz pedal would be easy.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for your comment Garry! I hope we can finish this one!

[avatar]

Hi, thanks for your comments on my Lucky Break lyric. Glad you liked it
Simon

[avatar]

Haha, it's an SG! Had to look up what the Starburst was... interesting 🤔

[avatar]

How is your part of Nfld faring after Fiona?

[avatar]

Thank YOU for all kind comments! 🤗

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you Garry! I welcome that idea of my nylon acoustic being a bluesy drone machine. Is my strings? Or the way I play? I hit pretty hard 😆

[avatar]

Oh, that's good news! I hope your son stays safe. Yes, migraine is finally lifting. Thanks for asking 😊

[avatar]

I hope you're staying safe with Fiona!

[avatar]

Unfortunately, it wasn't fun for me, nor is today's migraine. It's honestly exhausting, hence today's prompt.

[avatar]
@jeff9

And ditto on Justin's great number, "Mom's House".

[avatar]
@lowhum

You are officially now Gm7 in the Rocktober forum.

[avatar]
@jamkar

Thank you! Glad I connected with Newfoundland culture!

[avatar]
@jeff9

Hey, Garry, and thanks mucho for the kind words about Working Man's Freud!

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you, Garry! We haven't finished the blues yet. I look forward to the bass stems and new vocal take.

[avatar]

When I was a teen, I used to look for YES records at the thrift stores (I can't believe ppl give them away?!) and would display them in my room because of the fantastical artwork by Roger Dean!! This is my favorite song by YES:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51oPKLSuyQY
I think it is bc it's the first one I heard!

[avatar]

After listening to The Cult, I was thinking what 80s song I should send back. This came to mind. ENJOY!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVOuYquXuuc

[avatar]

haha! The only animal I ever hit with my car was a opossum. I was 16 or so and it scared me! I ran out to check on it and it scurried into the woods. I've read that because they're nocturnal, the cones & rods in their eyes cause them to get that iconic "dumb" look in the headlights, but they're actually quite smart!! Ray knows what he's doing in that dumpster...thanks for the laughs today!

[avatar]

G!! Your comments crack me up. So creative! And how did you get @opossum out of the dumpster long enough to send us a pic? :D I hope you’re enjoying the last weeks of 50/90! Guess what I’m gonna blast during my work commute? The Cult❤️🎶🙏I’ve got lots of comment/listen catching up to do here! Looking forward to it…
Have an awesome day🎉

[avatar]
@nadine

Not yet. Just bored in the train...

[avatar]

Thanks Garry. I feel bad about not being able to commit to getting any more collabs done but I promise I’ll pick it back up once things get better ❤️

[avatar]

Thanks for the listen to "Almost Gone". Glad you liked it. I didn't want to skip our zoom but I had momentum and that's hard to find any hour at my age. ;)

The B3 sound is the CollaB3 by Sampleson. It's pretty good, you get draw bars and a percussion switch. The Leslie isn't the best but hey, it"s FREE!
https://sampleson.com/collab3-free-tonewheel-organ.html

[avatar]

Thanks for letting me know my "Down at the Riverbed" lyric spoke to you, and that you thought my collab with @sheslin was solid! Fab that you thought her piano playing and harmonies worked and played well with my words!

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you Garry! Yes, @doggolito does hard energetic music and I enjoy it. I'll tit4tat you later this month.

[avatar]

Garry, Thanks for your comments on the Lyrics-only version of But I Did. If you'd like to hear how Kate and my friend Dominick transformed the lyric into a song, check out the posting marked "But I Did (Demo reimagined with percussion/bass.)

[avatar]
@jeff9

Hey, thanks mucho, Garry, for the comment on Workaholic Country Blues.

[avatar]

KK has had an enviable life. i actually like his movies more than his records.

[avatar]

thanks for your comments on private party. true, kristopherson, along with merle haggard, has been a big indluence on my country songs, more for music than lyrics. his sunday morning coming down, for example, has a guy drinking a couple beers for breakfast, which certainly influenced the way i started private party. but i was thinking more about the coca cola that preceded the beer. when i was in junior high, he had a party animal living next door, and one morning when i went over to see her, she was just getting out of bed and heading for the refridgeratoe for a coke. that made a huge impression on me, that someone would have a coke first thing in the morning. the music on the chorus is pretty similar to sunday mrning coming down.thats the way i think of a country chorus. the song is actually about my little sister, who is now experiencing some severe heath problems relating to an illness caused by an unhealthy lifestyle. i had some verses reminiscing about our childhood, but decided to cut them in favor of a more universal theme, but yeah, you are astute in catching my debt to KK.

[avatar]

GM7, thanks pard, for reviewing "Cowboy Music’s Come And Gone".

[avatar]

Thank you so much, G!! That comment has made my day :) :)

[avatar]
@nadine

Yes, and I replied to your mail right after ?!

[avatar]
@brisk

Ah, glad you had some fun with Country Mile! Thanks for listening!

[avatar]

Yes, thank you for the helpful suggestions. I also like the thought of a guitarlele and I am going to pursue that type of instrument. Soon. Maybe this week. I still celebrate "To Hell with the bell" with retired teacher friends, and this happens this week. Maybe I will find a music shop on my way home.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks, blues buddy! I'm pretty sure you're responsible for pushing me into the blues 💙 Before FAWM I didn't know I got it. Well in a difference sense, but not musically.

[avatar]

HI, Garry, Thanks for the encouragement on The Movie In My Mind. I’m looking forward to the music & vocals. “Coming soon….” :)

[avatar]
@cts

Wait a second...I'm looking at your song list here and I see that I have not commented on any of them? Seriously?!? I was so sure that I had done that. Believe me, it will be corrected this week, sir. Please accept my apology.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for your comment Garry 😀

[avatar]
@jamkar

Thank you for your thoughtful comments Garry!

[avatar]
@geoff61

Absolutely interested, email me your ideas to geoffrey.matthews1@sky.com thanks

[avatar]

class of 72? so that makes me three years older than me. i had a great 40 years reunion 3 years ago but missed the 50th. glad you had a good time at yours and im looking forward to seeing you at the zoom party on tuesday.

[avatar]

if there a difference between a monologue and a soliloquy, i have alwasys thought of this as a soliloquy. thank you for your comments. im glad you liked it. missed you at the zoom tuesday. is everything ok?

[avatar]
@atam94

Thanks for listening to "A Brighter Tomorrow" and for sharing your thoughts! I appreciate it a lot.

[avatar]

Thank you for that comment on the song with Hannah, means a lot! 🙌🙏

[avatar]

Thanks Garry - I'll look for those and add them to my queue!

[avatar]
@nadine

😍 🤗

[avatar]
@nadine

What a pity we don't live closeby. I'd join one of your bands, buddy.
Btw: Your profile logo is not working anymore.

[avatar]
@jeff9

Thank you, Garry, for your encouraging comment about Always on the Defense.

[avatar]
@andrea

Thanks for the nice comments on I Am Undefined!

[avatar]

Hey Garry, thank you, been meaning to drop you a line to say how much I appreciate your comments, they’re always so insightful. Glad the dad song lyrics stuck a chord too!

[avatar]

Hi, Garry. Thanks for listening and commenting on Come Back. I'm glad you picked up on the Lennon/Beatles feel to David's treatment of the lyrics. I am delighted by what he did with this.

[avatar]

Very very sweet message about your mom, G! I hope you have a nice weekend! 🎶🎶

[avatar]

Hi, Garry, Nice to read your comments on You Take Me There. Thanks!

[avatar]
@jeff9

Much obliged and flattered, Garry, that you liked I Can't Take Goodbyes.

[avatar]
@jeff9

Thank you kindly, Garry, for the nice words about One More Empty Seat.

[avatar]

Thanks G! Really enjoyed your Summertime collab!! Looking forward to more :)

[avatar]

thank you for all your comments, garry..especially the last one for phantoms now.

[avatar]
@nadine

Great idea, thank you Garry!

[avatar]
@nadine

Well, that's why I went bbq yesterday 😂

[avatar]

Hey G!! I've had a summer sinus infection and laid off the singing for a week to be poolside with my lil' girl. I'm glad we have through September for collabs :) Laid back loveliness and music, my friend! Hope you've had a good weekend! Late night coffee cheers from Ohio!

[avatar]
@nadine

Nay.... just trying to calm down... sorting thoughts. No music today and tomorrow.

[avatar]

Oh so much better :-)

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you, Garry! Where did you find the random song feature?

[avatar]

based on the chat you might get a kick out of the second verse in this song https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/1297

[avatar]
@marthie

Thank you for listening!

[avatar]
@cts

….aaaand check your email when you get a chance

[avatar]
@cts

I’m in the office at the moment - I’ll be home later this evening and I’ll get things prepared for ya and send it over.

[avatar]
@cts

It’s got a little “spice” to it. Saucy subject matter.

[avatar]
@cts

Hey bud - you mind fleshing out a guitar part for me?

[avatar]

Thanks Garry, hugely appreciate that comment! And kudos again on the excellent production choices on Kate’s song :)

[avatar]

thank you garry.. ny symptoms have been very mild. crammed with medicine as i am. i have even begun to be able to speak a little. my wife is still very sixk. i think it is because she has had two boosters and each one brought worse side effects. maybe an overdose of vaccine. i only had the two inital shots. we are keeping the baby downstairs with grandma until we both test negative.

[avatar]

thanks for the feedback on 'At Midnight' - i wasnt going to share it, because i think the piano is so 'stale' but im glad i did now :) And i didnt even think about my avatar :)

[avatar]

Thanks G!! I appreciate reading your comment on my collab with @mctown this Friday morning 🎶😀Hope your weekend is full of music!!

[avatar]

I have a Squier Affinity awaiting restoration and my first love was my Squier Strat which my daughter now has. The last was in almost new condition--a sad guitar bought and then not played so sold on several times. I bought and reconditioned a Pacifica (lowest end) for my grandson and was soooo impressed with it! So...My Pacifica I bought with the proceeds from selling my teenage-years beach gamefishing reel to a collector. He was happy, I was happy.

[avatar]

Garry, let me add my thanks for your enthusiasm for the "reimagined" version of But I Did. That bass and percussion really made a difference.

[avatar]

Thank you, G!! I'm so glad you listened to the reimagined version and took time to let us know your thoughts. Means a lot coming from you! I think Dominick's percussion gave the song a kick that it needed! More energy :)

[avatar]
@fuzzy

Darn, gave *myself* an earworm with that one.

[avatar]

@gm7 --So nice to hear your comments on Kate's & my collab: But I Did. I couldn't be happier with what she did, and those harmonies knock me out! Thanks, too, for the props on those lyric lines you especially liked. I wasn't sure if they were too "something," but Kate's delivery, was just what I had hoped for there.

[avatar]
@fuzzy

Turnabout is fair play.
"Don't stop believin', hold on to the feeeeelin'!"

[avatar]
@fuzzy

What?!?
I compliment you and you give me an earworm?!? 😀
Seriously, though, that's what I like about FAWM and 50/90 too; you get to listen to other people's music while it's still warm from the oven.

[avatar]

Thanks G!! I’ve been wondering if you and Jamie wanted to add any guitar or harmonies for my movie challenge song called Targets. Have you or @darbyam seen this film? I haven’t, so I wrote the lyrics about Targets being on one’s back. I’ll email you when my demo is complete. No worries if not :)

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you 😊! John creates such a cool and dark atmosphere in his lyrics ... and it fit perfectly in my mood...

[avatar]

It is indeed a cry baby wah 😂. Thanks man, really appreciate the comment!

[avatar]
@atam94

I really appreciate your kind words on "A Brighter Tomorrow" and I agree that I also like it as is. I'm mainly just practicing to get the performance of it moved over to muscle memory while I'm also writing a couple new songs in a similar style.

[avatar]
@nadine

I could tag nearly all songs for the surprise challenge 😄 🤣

[avatar]
@elesimo

Thanks for your message, Garry! It's a pleasure to work on a website with such an amazing community!

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you, Garry! All instruments on "Waiting for the train" are fake. I was not able to play it on guitar. G major is the only key where it works, but the strumming was unclean and I was unable to sing. It's not in C major with programmed instruments.

[avatar]
@jeff9

Appreciate the appreciation on "Clock Into Our Life", Garry. Thanks for taking a listen.

[avatar]
@jorh

Thanks for you comments - thought I’d try something new and add some melodies to my lyrics, even if it is a tad scary ha! That would be ace- just let me know if you fancy it at any point :)

[avatar]

love story is a good comparison to the way we are now, as the period i am remembering took place in the shadow of harvard university

[avatar]

Thanks for commenting On the Sunny Side of Me. Liked your tribute to Prime Minister Abe. Very moving.

[avatar]
@nadine

There is no comment on my "Quarterlife Blues", but I also realised that I did not receive all notifications of all people I followed. Hmn! Yes, I have a quite strong metal and blues phase right now. Too bored to write and play pop music... and you're getting funky huh?

[avatar]
@nadine

Bon appetite, Garry! Writing metal is fun. Releases a lot of stress and tension 😌 Have you already checked the blues?

[avatar]

yeah man Soulive ain't no joke; i think my favorite song by them is a version of Joyful Girl they do

[avatar]
@aneil

Thx for popping in checking out my profile and listening to Basically Beautiful. Thx for you encouraging comments. I really appreciate it. I see you are flying! Have a fantastic 5090

[avatar]

Thanks for checking out Blindside.

[avatar]

Thanks G :) Hope you're having a good day!!

[avatar]

Hi, Garry,
So nice to hear your comments on Broken with David Taro. I love what he did with my lyrics. Just magic! Thanks!

[avatar]

I could try to do something where I make melodies to your chords. My setup is literally just me and my phone right now though, since I'm trying to avoid my usual computer troubles by avoiding my computer, so I'm not sure what I will and won't be able to do. Most likely it would be one of two scenarios: 1 You send me listenable chords and I write the melody and then record it a capella and we hope they'll sync up or 2 you write down the chords and I record myself singing a melody while plunking them out on the keyboard (which I don't actually play). The first one would be much easier for me, since I wouldn't have to look up all the chords to figure out how to play them. But I definitely can't do any stitching and I haven't tested yet whether I can listen and record at the same time (I'm guessing probably not).

[avatar]

Hey thanks so much for the feedback on Digital Boy, Analog Girl! Welcome to your 2nd 50/90, hope to see you around for about 30 more. Hehe.

[avatar]
@atam94

Thanks so much for the kind words on "The Cabin"! It means a lot to me.

[avatar]

gm7, thanks for reviewing "Utah Trail". Glad you enjoyed the listen.

[avatar]

You are very welcome. The whole song is amazing and every collaborator is a star!

[avatar]

https://youtu.be/SbAxbmAHgx4

For your listening pleasure this Sunday, G!

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you, blues buddy! Just trying to get rid of the Sunday blues practising partial barrels. I'm writing down the tabs and figured out that I used your big brother GM7. No worries, you're always welcome 🤗

[avatar]

Oh yes! My daughter’s middle name is named after “A Letter to Elise” :) I also like Moody Blues and Annie Lennox! I’ll definitely be on the lookout for your collab with Robyn!!

[avatar]

Hi Garry. Yes, I could be up for a collab. Thanks for asking :)

[avatar]

Thank you, Garry. 😀
I was interested to see what images that recorder piece would conjure up for different listeners. I love yours!

[avatar]
@mahtowin

Thanks for you comment! I am sorry that I cannot deliver better vocals … The bass was a loop -I am not so fast in playing yet :-)

[avatar]
@sbs2018

Hey, thanks so much for your comments. EDM and bagpipes - right? Lol!

[avatar]

Thanks for the kind words! Wishing you a happy and productive 5090!

[avatar]

Thank you and no need to apologize! I realize we all should have discussed that on TNMC to see where individual preferences sit. Next week!

[avatar]

As always, your encouraging words mean a lot! Thanks G! I appreciate you listening :)

[avatar]
@sbs2018

Hey, thanks for stopping by to listen to “Fifty Shades of Blue” but you missed the cat song (“Walk-in My Cat” - lol!

[avatar]

Thanks for the welcome! Looking forward to hearing what you come up with!

[avatar]

Thanks for your kind comments! Could you ease edit your recent comment to remove my name? I'm only using my handle on this site. Thanks!

[avatar]

Hi, Garry, Nice to see you here, and thank you for the nice comment on Broken. I think your Exilium song is awesome! Comments on the song page.

[avatar]

Thanks for the "hello"!

[avatar]
@beacon

Yes, happy to have a Zoom call. I'm going on vacation next week, and this week is full of a lot of appointments in prep for it, so it might be a little hectic in the next two weeks, but we'll figure out something!

I just have to got through my calendar right now.

[avatar]

Yep. Piano adds a whole new dimension to the way us guitarists look at chords. Eagerly awaiting more from you now!

[avatar]

thanks- good to see ya here!

[avatar]
@beacon

Yay Garry! It's gonna be fun!

[avatar]

Thanks, I am! Happy 50/90!

[avatar]

Nah, you're the music master round' here - Megamind Unite!

[avatar]
@wacha

Hey! I'm definitely up for a collab, let me know what you have in mind.

[avatar]

Hey G! Happy songwriting this 5090!

[avatar]

Yasss! New studio!

Can't wait to start recording in it. 😄

[avatar]
@nadine

Howdy blues brother!

[avatar]

Happy Canada Day+1.
