David Taro spends most of his life in a box room in South London either doing his day job in publishing (boo!) or writing and producing music (yay!). #indie #pop #rock & #blues. Influences: the Beatles, Randy Newman, blues (various), Tom Waits, Elton John, Aimee Mann, Ben Folds, that kind of thing…

It's 5090 number two for me. Looking forward to more collabs and great music!

(PS. I've recently set up a personal site, do check it out if you're feeling charitable - link ☝️☝️☝️ - cheers!).

@cts

I dig. I caught on to Billy Joel when Glass Houses dropped. Of course the single Still Rock n' Roll To Me was the grabber, but You May Be Right was another favorite of mine. White Horse got a lot of play because (at least in my area of town) many listeners thought it was a remix of Erotic City by Prince. That was until the vocals came in and it was a whole 'nother impression, but a good one!

[avatar]
@cts

Hey man - thanks for dropping by for a listen on Connections. The bass line is an interpretation of White Horse by the group, Laid Back. Song came out in the mid 80s. Quite popular on urban radio back in the day.

[avatar]
@brisk

Thanks for the nice comments on the last couple - I really appreciate it. I like this one, mainly because I like the chords. I which I understood something about music theory to know what, if anything, is going on with them - but I'm not really sure where to start learning.

I agree about the lyrics of the pop punk one yesterday, I'm just having a bit of a blank over how to proceed.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for your comment, David! I always try something different but sometimes I don't know what I came up with or how that happened. A guitarist will rerecord the guitar (I lack of means to record and play cleaner) and I will broaden the arrangement. So I think it will happen next year :)

[avatar]

David, Thanks for your detailed comments on Not Your Kind of Guy. I share your praise for how well Georgie and Gwyn work together. Great chemistry! And yes, I love the way Gwyn's voice can go so low on those key lines! And the way they just click together. Thanks for coming by and leaving a stellar comment!

[avatar]

yep that would be great, we are there every Tuesday. Take your pick!

[avatar]

thanks for all the listens! yeah i am doing the new theme song tonight... so used to writing-recording-forgetting, feels weird to get a new song up to gigging straightaway again

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for your comment, David! I'm happy you enjoyed "Deep Heart". Finally somebody who noticed the noisy tape hiss track! You're damn right about the reference to "Ray of light". It's the only Madonna album I enjoyed listening to a long long time ago, and she got some thoughtful and meditative tracks with lots of interesting arrangements. I haven't thought about it, thanks!

[avatar]
@brisk

I've been thinking about my epitaph on and off for a few years (can't be too prepared) and I definitely think "The xylophone solo was justified" is up there. Thanks for such nice and considered comments for those two. Being compared with Crowded House was such a thrill, to be quickly followed by the bitter taste that comes with the realisation that a trusted friend and confidant isn't that familiar with them. They are really excellent. I think the bass part for the jazzy one doesn't quite make sense but I don't think I've got enough enthusiasm left to try to sort it out. Thanks again!

[avatar]
@panch

Thanks for your comments on Countryside. Yes Monk Rock, started in the 60's with Herman's Hermits and the Monk-ees. Other puns are available. Cheers.

[avatar]

i did have Jerry in mind when i was writing the song, hoping he would do it. I wrote this about the same girl as the last one Jerry and I collaborated on.."Karen My Heart Aches For You".... he is my Cyrano when it comes to Karen.

[avatar]
@jeff9

Oh yeah, David. Exile is in my hall of fame for sure. Hey, since you love that one, too, you might enjoy the short book about the making of the record. It's by Bill Janovitz and is part of that "33 1/3" series of books, all of which are where various authors take a single album and do a marvelous, deep dive into its creation. Website is here: https://333sound.com/33-13-series/

[avatar]

David! Thank you so much for your insightful and musically sensitive comments on our collab. Mctown and Jeff nailed it!! I can’t wait to catch up on my listening; you’re one of the most creative ppl I know…never quite sure what I’m in for when I click play…and I love that about your artistry! So versatile. Have an awesome day🙏🎶

[avatar]

Thank you for commenting on Pete. I think I wrote this in 20 minutes, i just had to weave the Blind prompt in. Just an hour before, four of us (retired teachers) were chatting online about things we remembered about that day. And everyone talked about Pete. SO it was fresh in my mind. And I even made 2 tracks of mandolin within the hour. Go figure.

[avatar]

We must not be cool kids if we had to look it up 😭 jk!! Have an awesome week ahead, David--full of music!

[avatar]

Lake Bled is a very beautiful location. There was an EU summit going on when we were there which was quite ironic.

[avatar]
@jeff9

Hi, David and thank you so much also from me for your really gracious comments about I Love Your Eyes. I'm positively glowing and I know Justin must be, too.

[avatar]

I wish I had more time this year David but thanks for the kind comments on the Stones of Centinera. It was quite a trips, 9 countries in 9 days. One day we had breakfast in Salzberg, Austria, Lunch in Lake Bled, Slovenia and Dinner in Pula Croatia.

[avatar]

thanks for your comments on one bad turn. the impetus for the story was a day when my landlord, a character actor who did a lot of work with clint eastwood and jack nicholson, came by while i was cooking dinner with a girl i had recently met. he whisked her away with an invitation to accompany him to nicholsons party (and nicholson was notorious for being un unrepentant sex addict). it really pissed me off and i never saw the girl again.. the idea for making the protagonist a chauffeur came from a day when this same actor, who was currently shooting the blues brothers, came by with an anecdote concerning riding with john belushis chauffeur to the airport to pick up robert de niro, i chose gina gershon for the revenge object because her band was playing in town on the day i was to review her movie, prey for rock and roll, and i was assigned to go to the club and interview her, after seeing the movie, i told my editor to cancel the interview as the movie was so bad i neither wanted to be a hypocrite and schmooze nor did i want to tell her i thought her movie sucked, i always kind of regretted not taking the opportunity to meet her, so i thought of the chauffeur spending a weekend with her in vegas as a revenge against his girlfriends infidelities.

[avatar]
@nadine

Lol. I'm trying my best not to learn that song 😀 But I understood the pattern

[avatar]

@katestantonsings indeed I do see what you did there….and I like it!!!!

[avatar]
@oswlek

Wow, David, thanks for your generous comment on "Eyes". You are much too kind. And too damn prolific! I have a lot of listening to catch up on!

[avatar]

“Kate, I really admire how you're experimenting sonically this summer.”
Thank you, David!! Means so much coming from a BAMF such as yourself. See what I did there @nahlej381? 🤭

[avatar]
@brisk

How dare you sir! That guitar was all me! No, no it wasnt. Thanks very much for such a positive comment. Another rather tribulatory day today - heads down, trying to see the bright side, etc... Nice to be able to do something completely useless and unhelpful like a song; my wife is a treasure.

[avatar]

Good morning, David. I'm finally awake (slept for 12 hours!) and delighted/humbled/astonished at your perseverance with my concepty piece.
You asked about the "cello" VSTi in track 8. It's from Soundpaint and a thing called bazantar. It's a sample from a 38 string double bass.
https://soundpaint.com/products/bazantar

Soundpaint itself is free, but the additional libraries are horribly addictive and wallet-damaging! :-D

[avatar]

Hey, David - Hooray. Feed the Algorithm is good if you want it. I've also got some other lyrics I haven't posted, that I could send you, if having options is appealing. If so, I could send you three and you could see if any of them resonate for you. My email is nancycunningham1451@gmail.com

[avatar]

It was really good to meet you too, David! I have literally just got home from taking Liz back to her place. We arrived back here at my place at 2.30am, grabbed about four hours sleep, then took my parents for lunch before setting off again. Complete zombie at the moment! 🤪😴😴😴
I'm having a day to myself tomorrow, so I'll be giving an ear to your songs. 😊🎵

[avatar]
@crisp1

Thanks for your comments on Pearl Diver, David. What Kate did with it is really remarkable!

[avatar]

Hey, David - thanks for listening to Scrolling the Blues. I'd sure love to write something you want to do sometime. Maybe in February if we run out of time this month...

[avatar]

Thank you, David! You always “get” it!

[avatar]
@brisk

Thanks for listening to those! Although it doesn't bear much resemblance to it, for Body Language I had the chorus of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZ-nfFc0aKw in my head as a reference point. It's one of my favourite TH songs.

Glad you enjoyed my McGill inflected filth, and that you got a kick out of the Missus oscar-worthy turn!

[avatar]
@jeff9

And thanks kindly for the comment on Second Look!

[avatar]
@jeff9

No worries, David. You turned me on to a great song.

[avatar]
@jeff9

Wrong “Jeff” on “ Left in the Dust”.

[avatar]
@cts

Please know that I will be bringing my A+ game, my friend. I am taking my time; thought it linger, it will not tarry. Believe that!

[avatar]

Good point - it’s not like I’m really going to walk my cat (as one of my titles suggests). Where do these titles come from sometimes? Lol!

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you, David! I also look forward to Jeff's version.
Btw: I'll upload our blues as soon as I received the bass... or mid of September.

[avatar]

Thanks for your comment on "With You, My Friend" I enjoyed penning that lyric, allows the listener to contemplate their own vision of the apocalypse...

[avatar]

Thanks David for your comments on Yin and Bang. It was great fun to write and Gwyn's brought it to life better than I could ever have imagined!

[avatar]

can i sample one of your tunes for the sample wars? something from 5090...any recommendations if you're cool with it?

[avatar]

Back indeed, at least physically. Gonna try to catch up on some listening. I’ll see if I’ve got anything left in the tank. Been quite distracted.

[avatar]

Thanks kindly brother! Space ghost coast to coast is, IMHO, the best TV show ever made (even better than Star Trek) it’s all on HBO max…I highly recommend it, it was a game changer.

[avatar]

Feel free to sign up for the war! It’s fun lol

[avatar]
@andrea

Thanks for your super nice comments on I Am Undefined. It means a lot to me that you really like my lyrics. Craig is ingenious. I am happy that you like the song he created.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for your comment on "Roadkill". The song just happened in my tantrum while I was trying to calm down by practising guitar. Yes that's my acoustic with tons of effects. Maybe the way I shred makes it feel metal. My right arm hurt after playing this song twice, it's 160 BPM and I have no idea about proper picking techniques. I haven't found my guitarist self yet, but I'm pretty sure that I'm no pop and ballad player.
However, my 15 year old self wasn't cool. I never had the guts to do something stupid or buy fancy clothing, not even a band shirt. My friends were into deep metal, goth and punk, and I listened to techno. And when most of them turned "normal" I started listening to the really weird stuff !

[avatar]
@brisk

Thanks for listening to those - I really appreciate it. I really liked the couple of John Grant albums I listened to. I got a bit bored by the FJM one I tried, but I think I should give it another go because I was probably just being a lazy listener for that one listen.

[avatar]

Haha! I could imagine you singing in that office 😀 Now if I can only remember the lyrics by the next open mic...

[avatar]

o snap. careful en route to work my guy! thx for the nice nice. it's about 3AM here and all i want is beats lol have a productive-enough day at work. glad i could keep you company out there in foggy london town.

[avatar]

thank you for your comments on the romantic age. the smoke, flame and machines' were not meant to indicate the industrial age, but a reference to the chicago poems (1916) of carl sandburg.

[avatar]
@nadine

I guess I'll have a tough time outsourcing that work 🤣 I'd rather outsource the recordings!

[avatar]
@nadine

Well I didn't hear anything odd today, so I edited my comment. As for vocal editing... What some call voodoo may be easy for others and vice versa. I delete those parts manually and it really sucks! Sometimes I cannot remove them because they are to close to vowals or breathing noises. And I leave breathing noises in my recordings.

[avatar]

Thanks for the comment. I've been MIA. Haven't listened or commented on anything for quite a while. Although, I've seen lots of song postings I want to listen to, yours being top of the list. Just been busy and right now traveling. I'll definitely listen to your postings when I have a moment. Might be a couple more weeks though. Keep crank'n them out! Hope all is well...

[avatar]
@nadine

All cool 😎 I should listen with proper headphones tomorrow.

Btw reading the comment below. Mouth noise removal? Don't tell me you lifted that secret. It's damn annoying, a gate didn't help.

[avatar]
@brisk

Yes please to the mouth noise removal dark knowledge!

[avatar]

Hi, David, thanks for the comments on Inconvenient Lovers. As I said to Justin, the only sparks flying in this story were between the lovers, and the fact that the gardener sacrificed his love and livelihood to save her reputation was the tragic part. In Lady Chatterley's Lover, she left her exalted station for the gamekeeper. Talk about sparks flying! :) Maybe that's why that version is so famous! 😀

[avatar]

yay!! thanks for the thoughtful feedback, David. Production comments mean a lot coming from you! I am a big fan of 90s RnB and didn't even realize I'd tapped into it until I read your message...so true! @mctown writes some cool stuff! Have a beautiful weekend full of music!

[avatar]
@brisk

Ha, not sure I have a real idea either about "Information Zone" - it is more associative. Like.. it sounds like the name of a magazine I would have read avidly when I was ten. And at the same time, I'm trying to imagine a character (me) who has to deal with all the complexities of being a child/young adult by treating the emotions and problems as forms of "information" in a rather detached, autistic way. Glad you liked it.

[avatar]
@brisk

Glad you liked Buried in a Schoolyard. I really like doing music for other people's words. I could probably quite happily attempt the same words fifty times, weird as that is to say.

[avatar]
@kristi

Hi David! I want to thank you for adding your moving vocals and instrumentation to If Love Was Everywhere. It’s very touching! You and Nadia know how to grab the emotions! I’ve just posted the collab here thru my Soundcloud account. Thank you again!!

[avatar]

Yes, please! Let's do it, I'M READY, DAVID.

(also, thanks for thoughts & words re: gma song) <3

[avatar]

Thanks so much, David! I appreciate your time and encouraging words.

[avatar]

Thank you so much David for your kind, supportive, moving comments. I appreciate every comment you so generously posted on my submissions. You are very kind!

[avatar]

Thanks David! Do you think I should turn it down a bit? I want to get the final version right for Joseph! If I can use your ears and pick your producer brain, I’d be so grateful 😀

[avatar]
@oswlek

I really appreciate you stopping by and leaving such generous comments, David. Thanks.

[avatar]

Hey dude, thanks for the listen, and the as-ever insightful review! Yep, my initial instinct was right, the coda should have been AT LEAST twice as long. The listener should be satisfied after a single sitting, and DEFINITELY NOT be expected to return for an additional listen.
And this is why I have no place in the music industry :)

[avatar]

had it not been a rocking chair, she would not have moved like a grizzly bear. rhymes can sometimes force us to invent things like that. she was more of a minnie mouse with the heart and soul of an edith piaf..and it wasnt a rockin chair either..it was just a bed.

[avatar]
@jeff9

David, your nice comments on Predator and Prey are much appreciated. Justin can sing the phone book and make it work.

[avatar]
@oswlek

Thanks David, I added "Judy" to a couple playlists. Hopefully I earn you a couple pennies. :)

[avatar]

Hope the open mic went awesome! Thanks for checking out Bulls. I should listen to Hall & Oates! Also, that's kind about the comments thing. I haven't had a ton of time to network this year, that usually helps those along, that and doing collabs. Speaking of collabs tho.....might be time if you're up for it!

[avatar]

Hi David. Thanks for the comments. :)

[avatar]

Thank you David. Yes Bandcamp has this facility. It used to be possible to send messages via Youtube too but unfortunately they stopped it so I'm trying to use Bandcamp when it is still possible :) I'll reply now.

[avatar]

Hi David, I sent you my message via your Bandcamp message box.
Have a nice day.
Nadia

[avatar]

Ah damn man, thanks for those mighty words on 'Boring'! I am in love with your output this year, I keep listening to Little Bird while my wife and I run errands.

[avatar]
@gm7

Thx D! Kate's song Target has a great message and is sung so wonderfully. And you Sir must have read my mind(your producer's hat ) . The guitar was just a hint of color but never meant to take away from the piano and singing.

[avatar]

thanks for the feedback on 'At Midnight' - i wasnt going to share it, because i think the piano is so 'stale' but im glad i did now :) there are a few lines of the lyric i will rework to help with moving the song along and keep the story better but i cant wait to get this into the studio and see what we can come up with!

[avatar]

David! Your comment has made my morning. I totally was trying to do a Reznor sound. Glad it came through!!

[avatar]

Thanks for the nice comment on my tune: October Song.
I appreciate it.

[avatar]
@gm7

Thx you sir , much appreciated.....it was fun track to do.

[avatar]

PLZ stalk me...i'd love it! i'll remove the second verse guitar and send it to ya. that'd be awesome!

[avatar]

Thanks, David. If you find you've got a lull, I can always send you three lyrical options to consider, with or without rhythmic sketch recordings.

[avatar]

Hey, Dave - The recording and the lyrics are great the way they are. Thank you for listening to Working All the Time and Am I Scared? I like how you're able to hone in on what makes the music work. If you're up for collaborating sometime over the next couple months, I'd love to.

[avatar]
@andrea

Hi David, I have some lyrics I would like to run by you for quarterlife blues by @nadine. Can I send them to you via email? Thanks

[avatar]

Thanks for your comment David, you are doing very nicely this 50/90

[avatar]

Happens to me, too. I'll sit down at the keyboard, hoping to come up with something original and my fingers, no, my ears find some existing song - I haven't really played them before but the ears know - lol!

[avatar]

Dear David,
A million thanks! I truly love the nostalgic poignancy and heartfelt vulnerability that you brought to the lyric Memories and Mementos. Your phrasing and pacing are perfect and your vocals and music are absolutely gorgeous! I will treasure this! I feel so blessed to have two lovely songs from this lyric. Thank you, Liz

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for your comments, Dave! I just wrote down my uncensored thoughts and felt better after ranting a bit. Let's see what happens with "The Wind". I really like the drafta nd since I was in a dark mood, the phrasing just happened naturally. I'm glad you enjoyed both!

[avatar]

David, I would love your collaboration on Memories and Mementos! So grateful!

[avatar]

It’s 2:30AM. I’m lying in bed trying to fall asleep, and all I can think is “B4 is a 5th above the tonic, G is the minor 3rd”… ugh, brains. Can’t live with ‘em can’t live without them.

[avatar]

Thanks for the comment on Washed Back. Key sounds great, but my throats feeling it today, just can’t control anything above B4. #baritoneproblems.

The melody didn’t work dropping down, and topping out at a minor 3rd limited what I could do. It sounds fine, but as I indicated, I had to comp it together from multiple takes.

[avatar]
@mctown

dropped an email

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for your nice words, David! Oh damn, I needed 5 takes to hit that e''! You should REALLY join this challenge. It's fun to analyse somebody else's songs.

[avatar]
@brisk

Thanks so much for hunkering down and listening to all those today - that is the mark of a man who takes his social obligations very seriously and I appreciate that. In no particular order: child 2; easy-licious? I have no idea either, I do talk some rubbish when I'm extemporising, but for some reason that amused me enough not to be replaced with something more considered; glad you liked that solo, I just feel bad that it has been time-stretched, time-squashed and pitch shifted SO MUCH. Ithaca seems to have had the best reception generally out of that lot, and it was the one that had the least time spent on it by some way, goes to show I suppose. Anyway, thanks so much for listening. I think I am getting a bit burned out at the moment, but we're away so much in August I wanted to get as much down in July as possible...

[avatar]

Thanks, David, for your input on "High School" - and other thoughts on Screamie Birds and finding our sound. I so appreciate it!

[avatar]
@brisk

Hello, thanks for giving Popemobile the time of day. I really like doing that kind of stuff, but it's like watching football - I know the bits I like and are exciting, but I don't understand how it all fits together. I will probably do a couple more of these before October.

[avatar]
@mctown

dropped you one

[avatar]
@wacha

Thank you for your kind words on "Want of Visions". Funny you brought of kotos (which admittedly I had to google), I thought the guitaleles ended up sounding a bit Asian.

[avatar]
@cts

*knock, knock* Hi, it's the Jelly Man, aka Mr. Party. I've got chips. 😀

[avatar]

Thanks, David… and yes there is no grace in this crazy horror movie, but Grace is the also the bride in the film so it gave me a nice duality pause :)

[avatar]
@andrea

Hi David, my email is ahbrennan5@gmail.com. Once I have lyrics written for the music by @nadine , I will send the lyrics to you both. Feel free to email me about She's my Wildflower if tweaks are needed too. I look forward to working with you 😀

[avatar]

Thanks, David! I really like Bill's writing voice. He's incredibly unique. The comment about Stranger Things made me smile! The music in that show is stellar. I was inspired by this remix from Minecraft's composer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jmv5pTyz--I
I appreciate the kind feedback!

[avatar]
@nadine

Wow, thanks, your comment means a lot to me! Sure, we can bring it to another level. I will write down the tabs tonight and think about who does what.
What about lyrics? My muse is on strike and @andrea also asked. Are you more comfortable getting or writing some? I am indifferent, it's just a matter of coordination and if you already have a vision or not.

[avatar]
@steviej

cheers for commenting mate.

Yeah… probably is creepy 😂 but it’s a character not you, right mate…? haha yeah of course, all completely made up 😀

[avatar]

David, I'm glad you liked Florian's and my collab on Into The Well. He really brought the lyrics to life. The lyrics weren't exactly "fluffy," were they? :) I thought he captured the desperation and hopelessness that I had in mind. Thanks for listening.

[avatar]
@nadine

You're welcome - And thanks for the comment! I am not sure about the song yet. I still feel like something is missing to turn it into a real song. Maybe somebody comes and if not, that's OK too.

[avatar]

O ya I don’t think it sounds too much like it just a bit of the same vibe. I think it came out super cool. And yes, respect for hello and the super dope music video

[avatar]
@brisk

Thanks, yes - it isn't really a song if you aren't plastering LABS over it, or that's my modus operandi anyway. I liked those lyrics so much, can't put my finger exactly on why, but then that's the beauty isn't it - the not knowing.

[avatar]

Ya let’s do that!

[avatar]

David, Thanks for your comments on Baby, What About Me and When Love Ends. Very different kinds of songs, but that's part of the fun of it, right? I just listened to your new release, "Judy" and thought it was Stunning. Your new website is great, too. Lots of treasures to explore there.

[avatar]
@mctown

Cool comments. Thanks.

[avatar]
@brisk

You must be right about the reverb; I'll see if I can crank that down a bit this evening. Thanks for the advice!

[avatar]

Thanks again for listening, David! :)

[avatar]

Thanks for the kind comments David. Currently recovering from Covid hence the impaired vocal performances. It’s time permits I will redo them.

[avatar]

Hope you feel better brother bear.

[avatar]

Hey can you quit your job and quit being a responsible family person and post some more music? I’m jonesin brah!!!!

[avatar]
@wolfkier

Sorry you won't be joining us for this next GIMME15, Dave. And sorry to hear your not in top shape right now. I hope you're all good to go real soon. Thank you so much for your kind words! Big hugs!

[avatar]

Thanks man! Ya Cody ( @codeenergy ) is one of my oldest friends we’ve been making music together for almost 20 years. He’s taught me a lot about lyricism and being a bad ass lol

[avatar]

DT, your comment made my day. I hold your musical sensibilities in high regard so any nod of approval makes me feel like I just received a wonderful gift…So thank you brother!!!

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for your kind and motivating words, David! You don't have to be worries about my tonsils. The harsh sounds comes from my false cords. It's not my throat! But I don't do that for a long time, cause it's quite heavy workout for my abs 😂 However, singing the cleaner part was harder for me. Especially the lower tones... and I don't get rid of my nasality :( I don't feel like I can use this voice in the next months for a recording, besides that I don't have the equipment.

Indeed, you can write metal songs about lots of tasks. Last year one of my Finish friends wrote death meatl about the joy of indoor gardening!

@brisk

Thanks! I'm glad you liked that one. I did that little chord turnaround at the end of the second line of the chorus (this is actually almost the truth). It is definitely liberating doing 50/90 - there is no possibility that I would normally have left the song at this point; I am not convinced by the bridge bit at all, and would have tried to do other stuff too - probably a load of extra guff that nobody asked for or wanted. So it is nice to have a policeman on my shoulder telling me that I should probably move on, stop loitering, and do my flies up.

[avatar]

Bahaha, you wrote and performed the song too, using my vocal cords like a puppet master from across the Ocean. 😂

[avatar]
@brisk

You are absolutely right. We should do a collab about UEA.

[avatar]

Thanks so much for your comments on my first 50/90 submission David! Im enjoying taking demo's further than i normally do already, so definitely more to come!

[avatar]
@brisk

Thanks for listening to my boo to politicians number! Like I said, the chorus was going to be cinnamon and ziggurats until last night, so who knows what the verses would have been about then. UEA?

[avatar]

Hey tagging works!!! U can come to me with all existential questions…I don’t have answers but I’m a good sounding board

[avatar]

Hey, thanks for your comments on my songs, I'm really glad you like them. I am just using my phone to record these, I don't have any proper kit, but y'know, we're all rough and ready around here, right??? Just how I like it ;)

[avatar]

thanks for the comments, from Max and Daniel too :)

[avatar]

tenor recorder but tweaked in the DAW so does even have a tin whistle feel to it. How many and "how well" they have to be considered together :-) not really sure there is anything i cant have a crack at sax is a real struggle and all the rest of that silver and brass is hard cause i dont practice but any string or woodwind is usually OK very mediocre bass and drums so almost always cheat on them.

@nateger

Thank you for the thoughtful words on my tune! I like thinking of my guitar playing as 'husky'

[avatar]

Thank you !
I wish you a good 5090 as well 😄

[avatar]

Thanks for your comment on "2023" 😄 BPM should be around 170 I think.
I'm very happy to know that you connected with it in some way ^^

@hbusse

Hi David! Glad to see one of my favorite FAWMers here for 50/90. 😊 Thanks for the kind comment on My Perfect Friend. Let me know if you want to collaborate on anything else this 50/90, could be fun!

[avatar]
@brisk

Oh no, it is completely superficial. I was just showing off my extensive MacCartney back-catalogue familiarity (that's not true - for some reason I only know Flaming Pie and Ram pretty much). Don't let that distract from my main point which is that's a great choon + lovely lyrical idea.

@beacon

Thanks for your nice comments and the re-follow! I'm always up for seeing what magic you come up with here! Looking forward to more cool stuff. If you ever want some added vocals to some of you stuff, I'm up for it!

[avatar]

thanks for the feedback on the mix and arrangement of 'The Past'. I'm glad to hear that it also suited the story and direction that I was going for. p.s. you make really cool stuff! checking them out

@brisk

If you can't be spasmodic sometimes, then what's the point? Thanks for listening. I kind of hate Second Chances now. I'll try to get the next one up this evening, but words are the main bottleneck.

[avatar]

your voice is just fine as it is. i wish i had gary brooker's timbre.

[avatar]

Hi David, I know you were joking :) It's just so lucky for me to find a prompt which is so dear to me. There were occasions when I was asking several times to give me a different prompt to be honest, as I don't find inspiring to compose to horror. Love stories and fairy tales are what I find inspiring. I appreciate though how much more versatile songwriters are, I'm just not one of them :)

[avatar]

100% let's do a collab!

[avatar]

:) Thank you!

[avatar]

Hey thanks David man, I dig and appreciate your thoughts on Owls, and you nailed it, I'm primarily a bass player! Maybe I'll do more bass focused tracks this year. It feels good to be doing my own instrumentals again, if somewhat sloppier at the moment. 😀

[avatar]

Thank you David. Regarding the numbers for the challenge, it really depends on finding the one which clicks. I could have never had a better challenge to be honest.
And dance and ballet you'll find in almost every piece I compose because from childhood I've been under ballet spell :)

[avatar]

Hi David!
Thank you kindly for your comment on 'Running'. I think we can both appreciate some 90s Manchester madness then! I guess it's hard to shake off that influence having liked it that era.

Oh, and I think in 3 months time we can call a collab done 😬

Happy 50/90!

[avatar]

Yes, David! I would LOVE it if you take on "Broken"! Thank you! Whoopie!

@geoff61

I will write some more by the weekend, just gonna read and comment and network for a couple of days now

@sbs2018

Hey, thanks for the love on "Bow Tie." And for the #Disco #Rock playlist. Many of my favorites are there - didn't really think of them that way but, yeah, it works for me! Some seem to be second cousins of SynthWave, which is quite popular right now. Loving the connection to all my favorite genres!

[avatar]

Thank you so much David for your beautiful support. I appreciate it.

@geoff61

Yep, My Perfect Friend is all down to the amazing Hannah :-) Have a great 50/90 David.

@steffan

Oh man, what a comment to wake up to! Thanks! I had close family hospitalized this weekend, and this song just kind of fell out of me in response. I was totally asking myself "What would big thief do" along the way.

Out of three pawn shops, the only mic I could find was a Blue Spark SL for $80. I had to fight with it for the guitar sound, but I was surprised how much I liked it on my voice! The interface is an SSL2, which is totally serviceable. The guitar is an old "regal" that's feels like it's made out of cardboard and is coming unglued.

Drums, bass and organ are all stock Logic Pro sounds which I think sound good enough to get the idea across, but I'd kill to have a go at this one with real drums and bass.

Thanks, again. Ya made my morning!

[avatar]

Heeeeeeeey DT….Looking for to hearing your magical music. Get busy!!!

@sbs2018

#Rock #Disco - how interesting. Sounds like my kinda thing. What are your favorite songs in that genre? I found a list of "Top 10 Classic Rock Disco Songs" and it had titles such as "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy," "Another One Bites the Dust" and "Miss You," which are all cool. Thanks for the appreciation of "Nasty Lies." Really fun to do!

[avatar]

Thank you so much David for your amazing comment on my movie challenge piece.

[avatar]

Good to see you, looking forward hearing your music again!

[avatar]
@brisk

Like your site - classy. Also great to see Hieroglyphs getting a shout out! Hope we can do a collab or two over the next couple of months. Hurrah!
