I usually write full- and short-length romance and horror fiction, but have always had an ear for #music, interest in #lyrics, and a desire to pen words for #songs.

Most recently, a tweet regarding #singer_songwriter @unknownbecky (@thisisbeckyw on Twitter) crossed my Twitter. And the rest, as they say, is history!

From there, I joined #Twitch to become a part of Becky's #TheRoomOfInfinity #livestreaming #songwriting session(s). I had never heard of anything like it before and found it an intriguing idea. She holds her #livestreams twice a week now (Wed: 3 p.m. ET, 2pm CT, 8pm UK; Sun: 9pm ET, 8pm CT, 6 pm PT) during which times she writes a #song in an hour from viewer suggestions. The first time song interacting with her and other viewers I was hooked. And when Becky and @andygetch mentioned about 50/90 to me during one of her livestreams and planted a seed for me joining this challenge, I checked it out.

And so now--although starting 2022's 50/90 late--I'm here! Ready and so looking forward to writing some lyrics!

Chris, we'll need to keep in touch after 50/90 as I didn't get time to do a version of the song I was happy with. My email address should be available on my profile, but in case it isn't, please use:
Berni (hyphen) two (the number) at telefonica.net

I have spelled it out so as not to get fished by bots seeking emails. But I am sure you can figure it out.
Cheers,

Berni

[avatar]

Glad you liked my spooky Halloween number. 😁

[avatar]

Hi Chris. Congratulations on your 50. Really nice songs there. I was glad to be a part of it. I am thinking ahead to October, when I update my Bandcamp page and wondered if you were alright with me adding Still Quiet Moment to my Bandcamp.

[avatar]

I could perhaps have a go at "Dream Woman" - but I am not sure I have the time before 50/90 ends. I have a gig tomorrow night and I am preparing for it today.

I'd also need your permission to change a couple of line for scansion reasons. I already have a draft tune in my head.

[avatar]

Thank you so much Chris for you thoughtful and insightful comments on Walking Downstream. I hesitated putting it up because there are a lot of volume issues and a much more careful recording needs to be done, but at this point in FAWM I had to keep moving so up it went. I just love the track Liz created and it was fun to work with - but really hard to record well 😀 You are one of the most favorite parts of FAWM for me this summer - our collab together, your incredible comments on my songs and checking out all of your excellent lyrics. Thank you for everything Chris!

[avatar]

Hey Chris! So sorry that Left for Good hasn't moved forward, yet. Life got in the way these past 4 weeks ... school started again, then work got crazy, and now a miserable voice, thanks to a cold. 🤦‍♂️ I still have some drafts in the queue that I will complete, and Left for Good is definitely one of them - I only can't promise I'll manage to get it done in time for 50/90.

[avatar]
@andrea

OMG, I am so sorry. I did think about it and then got caught up in some other things, then ... lost in a bad memory. Thank you for messaging me. I will absolutely revisit these lyrics and email you.

[avatar]

Thanks for your enthusiastic reception of my "Wild Whistle" song.

[avatar]

Glad you like it

[avatar]

great seeing you are this hooked on songwriting! I am very interested in your #AuthorJourney. I am moving from songwriting to author.

[avatar]

You can send it to my public-facing e-mail, info@karimaaren.com. Thank you!

[avatar]

Hi, Chris. All my pieces are original improvisations. If bits and pieces of other people's music gets into my pieces, that's entirely subconscious. I can't think of any other music that might be discernible in "Dance With Me"; I was making it up as I went along.

[avatar]

Thanks so much Chris!! Your comments are gold! :)

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you, Chris! I'm glad you enjoyed "Passing By". Have you already seen that @doggolito turned them into a super heavy metal song?

[avatar]

Will do my best , let’s see what time permits

[avatar]

Sure, run it by me, but I'm sure whatever you come up with will be great!

[avatar]

Hi, Chris. Sure, if you want to add lyrics to my accordion music, go for it! It may not be easy, as the melody evolves throughout, but I'd be interested in hearing what you came up with. Thanks for listening.

[avatar]
@marthie

thank you for listening!

[avatar]

Hi Chris, thanks so much for your assessment of "The Spiral Staircase" - You really GOT IT 100%. Thanks!

[avatar]

Thanks for your great comments on my latest creation! The last two vs are the newest and the bridge. A few word changes as well.

[avatar]

Hi Chris, thank you so much for your absolutely amazing comment on my collaboration with @katestantonsings on I'll take a train. It is always special to collaborate with Kate and your comment was so wonderful to read. Thank you so much!

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for your comments, Chris! I'm happy that you enjoyed my songs and lyrics. Yes, @jamkar and @jeff9 did a great job. As for "Stir Fry" I hope that somebody shreds some real guitars...

[avatar]

Thanks so much for you kind words and thoughtful insight into my songs. really appreciate the effort.

[avatar]
@jeff9

Chris, thanks much for the comment on Workaholic Country Blues. Looks like I thanked you for saying something about that song about a week ago, but I must've referenced the wrong song. Sorry about that confusion. Grateful you did actually take a listen to it.

[avatar]
@tjeff

Hey Chris - if it's ok with you I'm gonna do "When You're Loved" instead.

[avatar]

You leave such fabulous comments, Chris! Thank you so much!! Have a beautiful weekend ahead--full of music and writing I hope

[avatar]
@tjeff

Perfect Chris, thanks. "I'm Hooked" it is!

[avatar]
@tjeff

Hey Chris, thanks for commenting on some of my songs! And sure, I would be up for a collab. I have a few other things going this week, but next week would work. Let me know if there's a specific lyric you have in mind.

[avatar]

Thanks, Chris - I changed the collaborators to be just you. Fun morphing with you.

[avatar]

Chris! I just cut & paste your comment into my journal—thank you so much!! Your insight and constructive criticism is very valuable to me; thank you! I do hope to revisit my “strong songs” and record in a more professional way. Your notes help me make the song better and stronger. Thank you!! (Btw, drums are my fav instrument so I couldn’t agree more)…I know just who to ask. 🎶🙏I am working with a vocal coach on unearthing a more powerful vocal that I know is deep down there somewhere…hidden. I’ve made some progress! It’s a very vulnerable thing sometimes—to sing.

[avatar]

Hey check out my finished In the Dust with Jeff!

[avatar]

Hello! You're next on the Lyric Morph 3 train. Here's my piece to work with.

[avatar]
@andrea

I send you thoughts on Lawman's Ride by this weekend. Tonight, if I can :)

[avatar]
@sheslin

Thank you Chris! Yes the title for All Over You was intended to have 2 interpretations. I started with Over You and then added the All. I am glad to hear it is not too much of a journey in one song. I truly appreciate the great lyrical feedback coming from you!!

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you Chris! Boredom and frustration are the best state of mind to write songs. But I have to learn how to slow down cause I'm hyper ever since I started FAWMing. This is no good! I cannot keep this pace for too long.... 😩 At least I was able to keep myself from the DAW!

[avatar]

Howdy Chris and thanks pard, for reviewing "Where the Lonesome Cowboys Ride."

[avatar]
@andrea

Thank you for checking out Gone Fishing. I always love reading your comments. Thanks for your support this 50/90. I really appreciate it! My eyes need a break, but I'll be back to read some more of your posts.

[avatar]
@sheslin

I completely agree Chris, and it truly was a pleasure to collaborate with you on this song. Not all writers are open to considering changes or willing to invest the time you did in helping me figure out how best to honor your lyrics musically. I also really appreciate your patience and I am sorry it took me so long. Your lyrics truly inspired me to try some new things and the song taught me a lot.

You truly inspire me to write better lyrics in the songs I do on my own - you have such a way with words, which is good since you are a writer 😀 I also am grateful for you sharing your lyrics. Putting other people's lyrics to music always gives me a song I would never have been able to get on my own, so thank you for your generosity!

It is truly a pleasure to be with you in this FAWM space and create together. I will keep lyric shopping and see if something else speaks to me. Thank you also for the thoughtful and insightful comments on my songs. I save them all because you notice things I don't and I learn from you insights. I just also love reading anything you write and plan to check out one of your mysteries! Thanks again Chris!!

[avatar]

Chris, thank you so much for your thoughts and recommendations on Fleeting Moments!! Your comment is very helpful; I’ll be sure to reference it when I revisit the song after 50/90! Your encouraging words on both the music and my lyrics really give me courage to give it my all. 🙏

[avatar]

Thanks for the inspiration and your great comments!

[avatar]
@jeff9

Thanks, Chris, for the nice comments about Workaholic Country Blues. And sure--I'm always open to try a collab.

[avatar]
@atitlan

Thanks for the comment on 'Sidewinder'

[avatar]
@andrea

Sorry I forgot you already commented on that song. You have been so gracious to thoughtfully comment on many of my posts. @jeff9 is awesome to collab with. I suggest you send him a collab request 😉

[avatar]

Sounds great! I asked Andy to add you to the lyric morph!

[avatar]
@andrea

Thank you for your comments on I'm Always on the Defense. Your comments are always so inciteful and positive. I appreciate it. BTW, @jeff9 collaborated with me on these lyrics to make a wonderful country song. If you want to listen: https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/4092.

[avatar]

Thanks for all the great comments!

[avatar]

Ta for the comment on Deev Diping. I'm keeping it strictly instrumental, thanks; it's the first in a series where I take a track and manipulate it into another piece just using audio processing tools; the first follow-up is rendering out right now...

[avatar]
@andrea

Thanks for your kind and thoughtful comments on fall With Me. Also, thanks so much for all your support this 50/90. It has been a pleasure reading each of your comments!

[avatar]

I appreciate your feedback on "Tell Me What You Like"--they lyrics of which are, indeed, a little "creepy". I started, as I usually do, with the title--which are themselves pretty suggestive--but decided (who knows why) to go with a more "innocent" (?) high school romance direction, which, as you point out, may have just made things even more suggestive and disorienting. Point taken! 😀

[avatar]

Thanks for your long and detailed appreciation of "Welcome Back to Hell". If you get time check out the rest of the album. I'm sure you'll like it.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for your comment! Yes, Nancy has a great sense of humour 😀

[avatar]

Hey Chris! Cool, looking forward to your lyrics for Left for Good. 😄 I don't need a sneak peek - just post away. I'm on vacation for another week, so please expect some delay.

[avatar]

Chris, I’d love to collab with you soon. I’m a little behind on some collabs, but we have until October 1 or even after 50/90 if you want?

[avatar]

Chris - thank you so much for listening so intensely to One of My Favorite People, Honey, You Already Are, and Clock into Our Life. I was especially happy to hear that you believed the words in the first song. That's something I notice about every one of @unknownbecky's songs, and it's something I really want to bring to my songs.

[avatar]
@jeff9

Ditto from me, Chris!

[avatar]
@andrea

Thank you so much for all your insightful comments. As @katestantonsings pointed out, your comment is exactly what we were going for!
Your comments on I'm Always on the Defense were delightful. @jeff9 did a great job bringing the country flavor to my lyrics.
Thanks for the very thoughtful comments and feedback on Another Side to Me. I am still in search of a collaborator. In the meantime, I have time to make some changes. I will consider your idea to use 'metamorphosize'. Thank you so very much!

[avatar]

“In an instant, we further see the character in the flesh, rather than just know the person as the surviving statistic we're being made to realize.”
Wow, Chris! This is precisely what @andrea and I were going for! Thank you so very much 🙏🎶

[avatar]
@nadine

Sort of, because I need some time to swallow my anger and think about a strategy. I wonder what people read in these lyrics.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for asking. I'm okay, sort of. Don't worry, my anger is not connected to music. But music is my punching ball.
The two things that are not true... (a) The situation in the lyrics is fiction. I just enjoy writing dark weird stuff. It's much easier for me than happy love stories. (b) I never dyed my hair. But the guitar is real, and it hurt a lot to shred 160 BPM. I had to apply some voodoo to correct the timing.

[avatar]

Thank you so much! I built that backtrack around a dripping sound sample I received. I was listening to Crosses and NIN a lot that week and I think the sound shows lol!!

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for your comment on "Roadkill". I have been quite angry yesterday and since I don't have a punching bag, I shredded my guitar. I didnt think about lyrics, I just yelled out the nonsense I had in my head. It's hard for me to stop writing songs, but I have to, because my list is going out of control. I want to be able to work on fresh songs again, but I also want the quality stuff to be finished.

[avatar]

Thank you for your wonderful comments. I am so glad you liked how I performed the music.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for explaining!

[avatar]

Hey Chris! Thanks for the kind words on Left for Good. 😊 Yes, if you'd like to, you can give lyrics a try. 👍 Didn't come up with something on my own so far. Some others had some suggestions (see the song's page), but nothing that added up to a full story, yet. 😅

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you. Fun fact: I had to correct the timing of the vocals. Especially the sentence with the metronome has been completely off... This is how the lyrics were born. Before that it was "I cannot do things on my own", but metronome rhymes to microphone so...

[avatar]
@nadine

P.S. Can you please leave your e-mail adress or write a mail? Having your contact data would be awesome when things are decided... or change. This website closes end of September, just sayin'.

[avatar]
@nadine

Hey Chris,

thanks for your lyric. Cool idea, reminds me fo the baiting for talents in the commercial music scene. But this dude is super convinced of his skills! I'm sorry that I cannot say anything about the practicability, because I cannot rap and I only wrote two lyrics in this style.

I'll forward this one to @nahlej381 per mail, so we both have a discussion. We received another draft per mail yesterday night. I'll remove the lyrics needed tag and come back to you when we decided (a) if there can be multiple versions of a song and (b) which lyrics to take. In any case your work won't be in vain!

In general it's easier to handle multiple requests, when you show interest in a comment before starting something. Usually people take the first or wait for some days and the one with the most appropiate style for that song. Last year, I split the guitar tracks to rhythm and lead so both were happy... and some do multiple versions of a song. I'll keep you posted!

[avatar]
@sheslin

Hey Chris - I am getting the melody and chords together for you wonderful lyrics! If you would like to hear a rough copy let me know - I usually send that to the folks I collab with, and then apply any feedback. You can reach me through email on my profile page. Thanks. Thank you also for the wonderful feedback on my songs. It is such a gift to get feedback from a writer - you express yourself so well, and you see things in my songs that I either did not see or did unintentionally. It is just such a treat and I am very grateful!

[avatar]

Still Quiet Moment is posted. Thank you for such lovely lyric.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for your comment - It rhymes!

[avatar]

Thank you for the ever so lovely comments on my banjo song Clouds. The banjo has been a challenge for me to play and sing along at the same time, you know one take. But I am having some progress. I am quite happy to experiment with any form of music , and until recently my instrument playing ability has held me back, But I am learning me some GarageBand. I will enjoy working on Still Quiet Moment. Would you like a preview before I post? If not just add me as a collaboration and I will get something maybe tomorrow. I do have a music lesson in the morning, so won't be until evening time.

[avatar]

Thanks for the comments and listens!

[avatar]
@nadine

FYI: Gonna set my track private to avoid getting more comments on a old version. Thanks fir the comment it's not lost 🤗 !

[avatar]
@nadine

Hey Chris,
I'm glad you enjoyed my first time rap beat!

Thanks for your offer, but we already threw the beat together with "Darker" from @codeenergy plus hookline from @spazsquatch. You can listen to a update of my collab here:
https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/3158

I'm sorry but I don't have the capacity to start or join more collabs this year. I'm finishing stuff I promissed and trying to get people for the drafts I uploaded.

[avatar]
@sheslin

Hey Chris - well as they say there is not much going on in February so it is a good month to dedicate to music! I will be getting to Down By The Riverbed soon. Lots going on here - capped off by a power outage from storms last night. I am looking forward to working on it.

Thank you also Chris for your lovely feedback on my songs - it is very much appreciated!!

[avatar]

Thanks for checking out some of my songs. You're awesome!

[avatar]

Hey Chris, thank you for the wonderful comments on my 'Death' and 'Over the Top' tracks. I really appreciate everyone who takes a moment to leave a message!

[avatar]
@elesimo

Chris, thank you SO MUCH for your comment on my song "Joy". When I finished recording that song I thought to myself "this is the kind of music that I want to make". I was already happy with it, and reading your comment really made my 50/90! I really appreciate it!

[avatar]

Chris, thanks pard, for your lengthy review of "Campfire Melodies".

[avatar]

Glad to see that you got the second song posted. You may have already discovered that this year is the start of a new website for this community and is kind of a work in progress technically. There are still some bugs and gremlins in the new coding being fixed on the fly, and many features yet to be added. I see that you already posted on the forums, so hoping for an answer there. Oh BTW, @headfirstonly who posted below also has a fun Twitch stream!

[avatar]

Welcome, Chris! Have fun!

[avatar]

Hi Chris and glad that you made your way over from the @unknownbecky stream. Lots of levels of participation in this group, plus a lot of lyricists, and the FAQ https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/help-faq is a good starting place. Also tagging #needs_music or posting in one of the collaboration threads on the forums will increase chances of getting a music collaborator. Looking forward to more of your writing and to see how some of it gets put to music!

[avatar]

welcome to 5090! hope you have a fun and productive time!
