Re. your question about the improvisation streak: some of it is "I dunno, just because," but that's not all of it. It started as a way to encourage myself to play my instruments more often. Once I'd been doing it for a while, I realised I was improving on all the instruments; just playing one random instrument for three to five minutes once a day was making me a better musician in general. I acquired more instruments to collect more sounds and discovered categories I hadn't even realised I was that interested in, such as idiophones (xylophones, glockenspiels, tongue drums, etc.). I started experimenting with long-form musical stories in which I would post one "chapter" per day or string together improvisations by theme. I've pretty much admitted to myself that improvs are my sweet spot; they're the way I connect with music. Basically, my three years of daily improvs began as an experiment and became something that defined my musical development.

Oh yes, Fireside's on Etsy. They have cardboard dulcimers too. They're a respected brand. I hope you're able to find your harp!

[avatar]

Hey...you were asking about my harp. It's a lever harp (so definitely "mini" compared to a full concert pedal harp, but it's still got 34 strings and is pretty heavy). And yes, it was quite expensive, though nothing compared to a pedal harp. There are a few more economical options when it comes to harps. Avoid fancy-looking no-name harps that seem ridiculously cheap; they ARE ridiculously cheap, and they will have bad tones and a tendency to break quickly. Two useful brands are Harpsicle (https://harpsicleharps.com/) and Fireside (https://www.backyardmusic.com/Harps.html). Harpsicle harps are light and relatively inexpensive (comparatively speaking; they'll still set you back). You can get them with and without levers. Fireside harps are considerably cheaper. They're well made and have a great reputation; the reason for the low price tag is that the body of a Fireside harp is made of cardboard. It's very hard, good-quality cardboard, and it apparently holds up extremely well; you can read testimonials all over the Internet.

@mikeb

Thanks for the comment on my skirmish song, 'On To Hollywood'!

@fuzzy

Alright, it's posted!! 😀

[avatar]

Oh, thank you so much for your kind comment! I sometimes do such ambient tracks. But this one was very special cause I had to follow the song of the whales with the music. You can find more tracks at SoundCloud and - of course - here. „Die Alte“ is a collab with @dragondreams. He made an very good ambient soundscape. „Die im Dunkel“ is also ambient. I usually do spoken words tunes. Mostly in my mother tongue.

@fuzzy

Just sent you an email. 😀

@fuzzy

Drop me an email; it's in my bio.
I'll send you a Dropbox link if/when I finish it!

@fuzzy

Nice!
Do you want to hear it before I post it, or should I just go ahead?

[avatar]

Hooray. Just tagged you as a collaborator on Sick and Tired. Thank you.

@yam655

Thank you for the comment on "Riding spaces of apathy." Yeah, I think your words came across well. I have a long-standing history with mental health ups and downs that started in childhood. Fortunately, things are good these days, but I could definitely mine some lived experiences for that song.

[avatar]

Thank you so much for your awesome comment on “Nasty Lies.” It was a big change for me and I’m so pleased it was appreciated. I went through a thing here, too, when I made my songs private but now all can be heard. Glad I’m not alone. :)

[avatar]

Hey!! Just read a comment from you in the forums. May I listen to some of your private tracks? I'd love to offer feedback and encouraging words this summer. Nice to meet you.

Kate

Thank you for listening!

[avatar]

Enjoy your music break. On the collab - offer, absolutely no hurry and no pressure. I just love it when something I notice some particular thing that sparks a song.

[avatar]

I wrote this song for a skirmish that I felt like was sort of a co-write with you because it came out of your forum post about Perfectionism and Shame. If you wanted to be added as a collaborator with or without any additional contribution, I'd be honored. And of course, no pressure: https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/1267

Thank you for the wonderfully kind words on my 'Non Auditus' track. I'll be working to fix the track a little after 50/90 as there's quite a bit of distortion in certain parts of the track. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it!

[avatar]

chldomn, thanks for reviewing "Nancy Brown". It was a fun doings.

[avatar]

Thanks for your lovely comments on my 'Don't Go Tiptoeing' lyrics. Really great to hear that you enjoyed it!

Thank you for your comments! ❤️

[avatar]

Thank you for the amazing comments on my experimental piece! Playing with soundscapes and percussion like this isn't something I've ever done before, so I'm glad it's getting some love!

[avatar]

Enjoyed the lyrics on the two songs I can access, Morealeater and Second to the Dog.. this last one I can certainly visualise! (hint isn’t he name haha.. enjoyed it)

Thanks for your kind words, on Ant Ante (and beyond)! So far this year I have had a lot of fun. I hope you are having a good time too!
